Plot Summary: The Official Five Nights at Freddy’s Cookbook is a cookbook aimed at teens that is based off the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game franchise. The cookbook incorporates the video game lore along with recipes from the fictional restaurant that is in the video game. There is an array of forty different recipes that run the gamut from healthy to indulgent, so everyone is sure to find something they would like to make and eat.

Author Background: Information on the author, Rob Morris, seems to be quite elusive on the internet. My guess is that he is the author of cookbooks such as this one, that base themselves on culturally interesting or popular shows and video games. But I cannot prove that, so I’m only guessing.

Critical Evaluation: The book starts with an introduction and some basics around kitchen safety. From there it is broken into different sections such as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Bonnie’s Burgers & Subs, Chica’s Chicken Choices, and Roxanne Wolf’s Sweet Things to name a few. Each section is named after a character from the video game. Throughout the book is its namesake, Freddy, looming in the background, and there are fake newspaper clippings with disturbing and eerie headlines scattered throughout the book, to give the cookbook the same feel as the video game. There is an index included at the end of the book.

Creative Use for a Library Program: This is an easy one! We would pick one of the easier recipes out of the cookbook – one that doesn’t use many ingredients or require a bunch of fancy pans and ovens, and prepare the recipe prior to having a movie night where we watch the movie Five Nights at Freddy’s!

Speed-Round Book Talk: Have you ever heard of the video game (or movie) Five Nights at Freddy’s? Have you ever wondered what the food they have at the restaurant where the video game and movie take place tastes like? Well, I have a book for you!

Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation: I cannot imagine anyone challenging a cookbook based off a video game.

Reason for Inclusion: Teens love video games, so what better of a mashup than a cookbook that is based off one of the more recently popular video games. It is a fun book to read and look at, with a ton of color pictures that make the book pop. It is also a New York Times bestseller! This is a good nonfiction book to have on my blog, as I’m certain many teens will find the colorful illustrations interesting and the delicious recipes easy to make!
