Publisher: Xbox Game Studios

Rating: E for Everyone

Year of Release: 2021

Number of Players: Single-player, multiplayer

Genre: Racing

Plot Summary: Forza Horizon 5 is a racing video game set in an open world environment that is made to look like a fictional version of Mexico. The player can participate in a number of different races, challenges, and other events, with the backdrop being that the player is participating in the Forza Horizon racing festival. The player can customize how they look, what kind of car they drive, how the car looks, and modify the car, etc. This is the largest racing map in the Forza series, so the terrain can vary widely – racing through volcanos, jungles, beaches, Mayan temples, towns, and cities.

Quality of the Media: Playing this game on the next-generation Xbox Series X, the graphics are a delight to look at! And with it being an open world map, you can pretty much drive wherever you want and uncover different and unique things to see. While the graphics are very realistic, and you can drive and high speeds, you will often get into car accidents (which is part of the Forza game) and fortunately no one is ever hurt, and your car is never damaged. It is a really great arcade style driving simulator.

Opinion: This game is a TON of fun! You can drive a Maserati, or you can race around in a 1960’s style VW Bus. It is up to you! There are lots of various activities to do and challenges to complete, and the game can be played as a single-player, or you can play online and compete against other drivers or your friends. Just a really fun game and easy to pick up and play without having to learn a bunch of rules.

Library Program: This would be a great game for a library “game night,” especially if two to four Xbox consoles were available (with an internet connection) so eight teens could be racing/playing against each other at the same time. Teens like this game, it is easy to pick up and play, and it would be a good draw to get kids into the library.
